1.1 Ecomm Historical Background

Contrary to what people think, eComm has been there for a very long time.

In fact the birth of eComm was coupled with the birth of computer networks in the early sixties, that was of course in the USA the leading edge of most of computer advancements,at that time and that place all of modern computer science and networks technologies took place and were able to flourish.

That was not for the sake of the technology itself, or for the love of new gadgets, but it was due to its ability to "Save Money" and "Creating Wealth".

When computer networks were created, large companies and financial organizations discovered the opportunity in integrating those networks in their work lifecycle to share resources, save money and increase the speed of their work life cycle.

Networks utilization did not come for free, but it was for a small amount of money to be paid to the network owner company for every byte (character) travelling throughout the network; from this moment, an eComm model was created, "Money For Data Transfer".

1.1 Ecomm Historical Background

At those days, eComm models included activities such as

Electronic Marketing (eMarketing).

Electronic shopping by using search engines (eShopping).

Electronic data interchange (EDI).

Electronic fund transfer (EFT).

Electronic mail (email).

Those models, created the first electronic commerce environment that saved cost and encouraged companies to use those models more and more.
